Finally! The Answer as to Why Women Need Chick Flicks

Published by usedtobeme at 12:20 pm under Men & Women Edit This

I feel neglected sometimes. When that happens, instead of going out and chatting with a neighbor or going somewhere to cheer myself up, I revert further into myself. I want to find a quite place, a comfortable chair and a good book and lose myself for a few hours.  I have the same instinct when I am feeling blue or down.  There is something to be said for the emotional release that comes with a really good chick flick and a box of Kleenex.

I know I am not alone.  I know there are others out there like me. My theory is that we have built up emotion inside ourselves that cumulates and grows until finally, we need release.  Certainly, every time we encounter something it doesn’t make us want to cry.  Instead, every time we encounter some emotion evoking situation, a block is placed.  We handle the situation fine but we place a block there.  Those blocks add up until finally, like blowing your nose when you have a cold and are all stuffed up, you need to blow those blocks out of your head.  You crave release from the emotions that you feel but have stored for a while.   You need to clear out that space so you can breath again.

We need emotional release that cannot be achieved in our day to day lives.  We cannot cry when the copier jams  or when the coffee spills across our desk or when the kids spill their cereal bowl all over our freshly mopped floor.  Because those are inappropriate reactions to the situation.

And that is why women like chick flicks.
